PROBLEMS WITH "TR" AND A STUPID GOD. PART II.

These days I'm not inspired to publish something so I will publish a simple text, at same time, publish it makes me very excited. The last post I spoke about the problems with the TR, as well as you knows I had more problems (someone had torn a page of my work). However, the TR is already delivered. The text I will publish is the translation of the “Personal opinion and anecdotes”. I Think Blogger should be a place to put all that makes me excited, and now, my TR is one of the things that make me happy. I have to say the translation has been VERY DIFICULT (I had needed two hours) and I had to remove some paragraphs and I have changed many difficult words to translate more easily, and the “time” of the writing. To finish this stupid introduction, I would say that I discovered a contradiction: If you touch a think too much, it breaks down (as I said in the last text) but it is also true that when you have many problems the work acquires greater value. May be, this bitter –sweet feeling (like Chinese chicken) is what have motived me to publish this text. Only one question, now I know what means “bitter”, but what means “kas”?

PERSONAL OPINION AND ANECDOTES

Initially I wanted to make the work with a scientific perspective (as I explained in the introductory part), but now I know that it was impossible, and how make it with a journalistic perspective had enriched me.

I liked focus controversy and society (who knows me, know how I like controversial topics.) So I think I've done the work from one of the most interesting aspects that GM offered.
A very representative anecdote: apart from the presence in Osona’s supermarkets, I also wanted to know who sells transgenic seeds in the region. So I visited and asked in three agricultural cooperatives (I don’t say the names for obvious reasons). The answers were very clear: "we do not have, and I don’t know where you can find it", "send an email to Monsanto," you cannot change the topic of the work?”... The presence of GM in the region is more than proved, however is too obvious that the word "GM" don’t sell much. Similarly, to buy kits for GM detection to any biotech company, you need patience, and time to receive thousand of personal questions ... (Except the Company “Bios”)… So I could only identify a place where biotech companies sells seeds (hybrid seeds and chemicals, but I could not check the presence of GMO’s) in the region: “Agricamp”, a shop with several Pioneer seeds (C / Ripoll, 75, 08500 Vic).

I sincerely hope that I have made this work well, I think it don’t has any “white point”.  Behind the pages, there is a complex process of organization, reflection and planning  all sections to make it correspond exactly to what I wanted (a process that is not very common in me, for this reason I am  most proud  and I think I've overcome a personal challenge).

On the other hand, I’m very surprised for the cooperation that I received. The truth is that I’m very surprised for the help I received and that how easily has been find people involved in the issue very close to my home and / or without have to make extraordinary efforts. For example, one day in August, Quim Oliu saw one of my surveys in a Cantonigròs’s restaurant, so one day I found in the letterbox a letter filled of publications and articles of GMO’s. Needless to say, this story is just one of many stories that support (and I won’t be tired of repeating and praise) the excellent cooperation I received.

I had discovered with the interviews is that you can feel the controversy that exists around the issue. For example, one of the persons that I had interviewed (I won’t say the name) told me that he/she had said “no” to make a study about OMG because he/she perceived the political background (vull dir “rerefons”) of the same investigation.

Before finish this text, I would add that this work has become an opportunity to make a study "on my way" (without the help of a third person) to meet fantastic people and discover, for me, an "exotic" world. As a result, I started to look for details that before the TR I ignored (the labeling of products, posters in the fields that indicate their transgenic nature ...). So this research isn’t a boring work (which you only work hard to get a good grade) is an attractive research and even exciting (or in my case). Now, I only have to say that I hope TR continues!
